Bacalar - Mexico's 7 Color Lagoon

El Pueblo Mágico

April 15 - 18, 2015

Mexico is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. You can say that I am bias because I was born there. But really, it has amazing beaches, great food, great music and is rich in culture. The people in Mexico are the MOST welcoming people you will ever meet, and always ready to take a tequila shot with you. I am sure you are familiar with Puerto Vallarta, Cancun, Los Cabos, but today I am going to focus on a place you might not have heard of before, Bacalar.

To give you a little bit of a history background; The "Pueblo Mágico: Bacalar" is a majestic town in the south of Mexico, 34km away from the Belize border. It is home to Lake Bacalar, also known as the Seven Color Lagoon due to it’s different hues of blues and teals. It is actually the white sandy bottom that gives the Lagoon its effect. And the surrounding jungle makes for an unbelievable scenery.

This hidden gem is the best place to go, if you are looking to relax.

So..how to get there?

We flew Interjet, from Guadalajara to Chetumal. Interjet is a Mexican airline, with great deals, paid $273/per person round trip. We had arrangements made with the hotel to be picked up from the airport and taken to Rancho Encantado.

Our Stay.

We stayed at Rancho Encantado. We had a casita facing the lagoon, with a breath taking view. Found a great deal thru Booking.com, it was about $300 for 3 nights for 3 people. We had two single beds and 1 king bed, bathroom, mini bar and breakfast included.

Must Do’s.

Like I said, this is a place to relax! So grab your favorite book, lay in the hammock and enjoy the sun. If you are like me and enjoy water sports Rancho Encantado, offers paddle boards and kayaks.  Every morning I would take out a paddle board and hit the lagoon. In the mornings the water is calm, so if paddle boarding is something you've always been curious about, this is the perfect place to do it. Plus the water is crystal clear, making the experience even more beautiful. Definitely worth checkin out. But if you are not into that, then just enjoy the lake, even if it's from a swing!

Best Must Eats.

The food in Bacalar is amazing, just like everywhere in Mexico. I recommend you check out the restaurant at Los Aluxes Bacalar Hotel! I am a HUGE fan of ceviche and micheladas, basic, I know. But really you must try at least the ceviche there.
